Not the biggest names, but coolest songs
The participants were revealed by this year’s Melodi Grand Prix hosts; Kåre Magnus Bergh and Silya. The lucky ten were selected by a jury headed by Jan Fredrik Karlsen, who replaces Vivi Stenberg, after her three years of picking songs.
“We haven’t picked the biggest names but the coolest songs with a lot of hungry MGP artists who will deliver 100 percent in the final,” said Jan Fredrik to nrk.no.
Indeed this year’s Norwegian names aren’t all stars. Agnete won the Nordic Junior Eurovision in 2008, while Laila Samuels had moderate success on the American Billboard chart in the 90’s in the band The Tuesdays. The same goes for Stage Dolls in the late 80’s. The group Pegasus has had success in Norway and won album of the year in 2013. Makeda has participated in The Voice, and Stine Hole Ulla has even won Norway’s Got Talent.
Norway selects its representative for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest on February 27.
