10 entries selected: Denmark reveals songs January 28
After receiving a record breaking 982 songs for consideration, the Danish national broadcaster DR has narrowed the field for Melodi Grand Prix 2016 to just 10.
The artists and songs will be revealed to the public on January 28.
Cutfather running things
The submissions for 2016 broke the 2014 record, where 872 songs were received, with songwriters perhaps hoping for Denmark to win on Swedish soil for a third time.
It has been the responsibility of the successful Danish producer Cutfather to go through the many entries and select the 10 with the best chances of winning in Stockholm. Back in September, the head of entertainment at DR, Jan Lagermand Lundme, said to dr.dk: “With Cutfather running things, we show that we are serious about the songs we want on the show, which might have tempted more good songwriters to join.”
When the artists and song names are revealed on January 28, the songs will also be made available online, as well as the CD release the day after.
Melodi Grand Prix 2016 airs live from Horsens on February 13.
Denmark was represented by the group Anti-Social Media in Vienna, failing to reach the Grand Final for the first time since 2007.
