  • Carl Espen Thorbjørnsen was born in 1982 in Bergen. Raised on an island not far from his birthplace, Carl was a nature lover, appreciating his natural surroundings. Carl took to music and singing at a young age and actually won a local music competition as a teenager.

After a short stint in the Norwegian military, Carl worked as a carpenter, working in many companies in that field. Carl also moonlights as a bouncer at a local Bergen bar. Carl’s true passion and dream, however, is music and singing.

  • Carl Espen’s journey began in 2013 when his cousin Josefin Winther wrote a special song for him titled “Silent Storm.”  She believed that he had a “storm” of emotions inside him that he needed to express.

Believing in Carl, Josefin entered the song in the selections for “Melodi Grand Prix 2014.”

Carl was eventually selected as a semi-finalist and went on to perform in the live show in Oslo. Carl and his “Silent Storm” received 1st place in the third semi-final, qualifying him to the final. After his performance in the final, he was announced as being in the top four and moved on to the Gold final. There Carl Espen was crowned the winner, after winning a large majority of the votes from his home Western Norway region.

    Head to toes

    Flesh and bones

    Should feel whole

    But the void

    A silent storm

I’m here to use my heart and my hands

Somehow the bruises changed my plans

And there’s a silent storm inside me

    Looking for a home

I hope that someone’s gonna find me

    And say that I belong

I‘ll wait forever and a lifetime

    To find I’m not alone

There’s a silent storm inside me

    Someday I’ll be calm

    Ask myself

    What comes next

    Will I fly?

    Will I fall?

    My silent storm

I’m here to use my heart and my hands

Somehow the bruises changed my plans

And there’s a silent storm inside me

    Looking for a home

I hope that someone’s gonna find me

    And say that I belong

I’ll wait forever and a lifetime

    To find I’m not alone

There’s a silent storm inside me

    Someday I’ll be calm
