  • Valentina Monetta was born and raised in San Marino to a Sammarinese mother and an Italian father. She began her singing career at a young age by singing jazz. She went on to sing in numerous bands, mainly in the jazz genre. In 2001, Valentina competed in the Italian tv-show “Popstars.”

In recent years, Valentina came to work with Eurovision veteran Ralph Siegel. Together, they collaborated on her three Eurovision entries, as well as, an album in 2013. They are currently working on the release of their album together this year. Valentina is also self-taught in piano.

  •

Valentina Monetta first tried her quest for Eurovision in 2008 at the Sammarinese national selection with the song “Se non ci sei tu,” but was not selected.

In 2012, San Marino TV announced that they had internally selected Valentina as their artist for Eurovision. Through a partnership with Ralph Siegel, Valentina revealed her entry as “Facebook, Uh, Oh, Oh.” Because of a violation of EBU’s rules against commercial wording in songs, the lyrics were slightly altered and the song was renamed to “The Social Network Song (OH OH – Uh – OH OH).”

At Eurovision 2012, Valentina ended up 14th in the semi-final, failing to qualify for the final.

In 2013, it was announced by San Marino TV that Valentina has once again been announced as the Sammarinese entrant. Once again, she worked with Ralph Siegel. Joining them was Mauro Balestri, and helped create their 2013 entry “Crisalide (Vola).” Valentina once again failed to qualify for the final, ending up 11th in her semi-final at Eurovision 2013.

In the summer of 2013, it was announced that Valentina will represent San Marino for the third time at Eurovision 2014. It was soon revealed that she would be once again working with Ralph Siegel and Mauro Balestri.

In March 2014, Valentina’s song for Copenhagen was revealed as “Maybe (Forse).”

  •

Maybe there’s a pearl in the shell

Maybe there’s a story to tell

Maybe we can not live in peace cos we’re under a spell

Maybe there’s a light from above

    Maybe there’s a flight of a dove

    When it’s time

To open the heart of love

    Maybe we can try

    Maybe you and I

    Are finding pain to overcome

    Maybe then one day

Every soul heals and will find a way

    And maybe

We really are the dream of God

And we woke up in flesh and blood

With our emotion transformed into gold

    Or maybe

In certain solid ways I feel

I know there’s nothing stronger and more real

    Than falling in love

    Maybe you and I

Are tear drops from the sky

    That fill the sea eternally

    Maybe we can try

To challenge the fear of the endless night

    And maybe

We really are the dream of God

And we woke up in flesh and blood

to find our bodies transformed into gold

    Or maybe

In certain solid ways I feel

I know there’s nothing stronger and more real

    Than falling in love

Maybe it’s a journey in the darkest night

Maybe we can make it to the morning light

Maybe this is it this is real and I feel this is right

    Finally right

    And maybe

The courage that I’m finding now

    Remembering and sensing how

    We fell in love

“Maybe is the benefit of doubt. It is an encouragement to fall in love, over and over again, forever.”
