  • The Common Linnets is made up of singers, Ilse DeLange and Waylon. While knowing each other since teenagers, the two took separate paths musically.

Ilse DeLange is widely known in the Netherlands as a country and pop singer. She has achieved many number one hits as well as numerous platinum records.

Waylon was born as Willem Bijkerk in 1980. He acquired his name from the late country singer Waylon Jennings, who Willem himself managed to tour with in the early 2000s after sending him a music sample. Later, after trying out for “Holland’s Got Talent” in 2008, he became known to the Dutch audience and his career was launched.

Ilse and Waylon decided to band together for a project in Nashville recently, which saw the start of The Common Linnets. There are plans for a continued effort even after Eurovision is concluded.

  • The Common Linnets were chosen internally by Dutch broadcasters AVRO and TROS in the fall of 2013. Ilse DeLange and Waylon accepted the offer and began choosing a song for Eurovision 2014.

On March 12, The Common Linnets presented the entry “Calm After The Storm” in acoustic form on Dutch television. The very next day, the final version of the Eurovision 2014 entry for the Netherlands was presented on Dutch radio. The song was recorded in Nashville and was written by notable American writers of the country genre.

  • Driving in the fast lane

    counting mile marker signs

    The empty seat beside me

    keeps you on my mind

    Livin’ in the heartache

    was never something I pursued

    I can’t keep on chasing

what I can’t be for you

oooohhhh skies are black and blue

    I’m thinking about you

Here in the calm after the storm

    tears on the highway

    water in my eyes

This rain ain’t gonna change us

    what’s the use to cry

    I could say im sorry

    but I don’t wanna lie

I just wanna know if staying

    is better than goodbye

oooohhhh skies are black and blue

    I’m thinking about you

Here in the calm after the storm

oooooohh after all that we’ve been through

    (baby) there ain’t nothing new

Here in the calm after the storm

    Maybe I can find you

    down this broken line

    Maybe you can find me

    guess we’ll know in time

oooohhhh skies are black and blue

    I’m thinking about you

Here in the calm after the storm

    there ain’t nothing new

Here in the calm after the storm
