Concert venue VEGA confirmed to host EuroClub 2014
When the artists, delegations, press, and accredited fans of Eurovision Song Contest 2014 are in the mood for a party in Copenhagen, concert venue VEGA will be the place to be. It has been chosen to host EuroClub for the two Eurovision weeks.
In an interview with Eurovision news blog Wiwibloggs, event coordinator of the tourism organization Wonderful Copenhagen Martin Bender revealed that VEGA will be 2014 EuroClub. Now eurovision.tv has reported the same, saying the deal will be finalized next week.
The concert venue VEGA was founded in 1996 and has since been a central part of the Copenhagen cultural stage. Artists such as Björk, David Bowie, Kylie Minogue, Norah Jones, and Foo Fighters have performed here over the years, as well as a vast amount of Scandinavian artists.
VEGA is housed in The House of the People, built in 1956 and designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen. It used to host the socialistic workers’ movement and is a prime display of 50’s modernism, as the building is under protection and can not be altered.
In 1996, after the building had been ill-kept for years, extensive renovations took place, creating VEGA. The building houses Big VEGA and Small VEGA, as well as VEGA Bar and Lounge, and Ideal Bar. Big VEGA can house 1500 standing audience members at concerts, being the obvious choice for the performances at Euro Club.
VEGA is located at Enghavevej 40, just outside the most central part of the city in the Vesterbro neighborhood, next to Enghave Park. From the Central Station, the venue is two stops away on the local S-train or a 10-minute bus ride. This is in the opposite direction of Eurovision Island, as the two locations are about 40 minutes apart in the current infrastructure.
EuroClub at VEGA is a part of the greater Eurovision plan for Copenhagen, which you can read more about by clicking here!
