Rumor has it that Cyprus and their respective national broadcaster, CyBC, have decided to withdraw from participating in the 59th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The final decision of whether or not to participate in 2014 will be decided by the CyBC Board next week. At this time, all signs point to the Board approving the withdrawal.
If Cyprus in fact does withdraw, 2014 will mark the third absence in their 33-year presence in the contest, the other years being 1988 and 2001.
On the CyBC website, it was officially announced in a statement that Cyprus will not be taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
“RIK communicates the decision of the Board of the Foundation for abstention from the Eurovision Song Contest 2014. The Board reached this decision taking into account the feelings of the public due to the economic crisis. It was also considered to further reduce the budget of CyBC in 2014, and the need for drastic cuts in spending on programs.”Source
