Eight hosts revealed for Melodifestivalen 2016!
The Swedish national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, Melodifestivalen, is celebrating its fifteenth year in its current format with a big line-up of hosts!
A total of eight people will host next year’s shows, with an anchor and seven guest hosts.
Seven hosts for six shows
TV-personality Gina Dirawi, who hosted Melodifestivalen in 2012 and 2013, returns to host all of the shows as the anchor. For the four semi-finals, the second chance show, and the final, she will be joined by a new host for every show.
The seven hosts are:
- Semi-final 1: Petra Mede
- Semi-final 2: Charlotte Perrelli
- Semi-final 3: Henrik Schyffert
- Semi-final 4: Sarah Dawn Finer
- Second Chance: Peter Jöback and Ola Salo
- Final: William Spetz
Petra Mede, who hosted both Melodifestivalen 2009 and the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 by herself, will kick off the season with Gina.
For the second semi-final, previous Melodifestivalen host and Eurovision winner Charlotte Perrelli will return. She last participated in Melodifestivalen in 2012, but did not make it to the final.
Henrik Shyffert, who will host semi-final 3, hosted the second semi-final of Melodifestivalen in 2005, with Erik Haag.
Sarah Dawn Finer has previously hosted Melodifestivalen with Gina in 2012 and participated as a contestant in 2007 and 2009. In 2013, she sang “The Winner Takes It All” in the Grand Final in Malmö, just before the results were revealed.
The second chance show will be guested by both Peter Jöback and Ola Salo. Peter previously participated in the contest in 1990 and 2010, while Ola Salo won the show in 2007 as lead-singer of The Ark.
Finally, the final of Melodifestivalen will be guest-hosted by the 19 year-old Youtube star William Spetz, the youngest host yet. He is the only host who has no previous Melodifestivalen experience. William has had his own show on the SVT online channel SVT Play, making a big jump to the most-watched TV-show in Sweden.
Ties the record
Gina Dirawi is excited about the challenge of having a new co-host every week. “It’s about finding the energy on stage and the right vibe with each other. But every week it will be a new energy, so perhaps they will pick me up if I get tired,” she said to svt.se.
With 2016 being her third year of hosting Melodifestivalen, Gina ties the record for most hostings with Ulf Elfving, Fredrik Belfrage, Lena Philipsson, and Charlotte Perrelli. “I like it, I love breaking records. You want to be the boss, right?” she said.
Melodifestivalen returns on February 6, with the Swedish representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 being chosen on March 12.
