Emmelie reveals her secret boyfriend of 6 months
Not much was known about Emmelie de Forest’s personal relationship status when she competed for Denmark and won Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö in May. And for good reason.
De Forest has revealed to Danish tabloid BT that she deliberately kept her relationship secret from the press, because it was very new. But she now comes forward and shares her happiness. Since a few months before the big final in Malmö, she has been seeing Jakob Schack Glæsner of the former Danish band Johnny Deluxe, who is 22 years her senior and father of two.
Glæsner was the bass player of the popular Danish band, Johnny Deluxe, before they broke up in 2012. The band took part in the Danish national selection for Eurovision, “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix,” in 2009, with the song “Sindssyg.” Today he works as a songwriter and producer and has produced de Forest’s current single “Hunter and Prey.” He also co-wrote the Danish 2011 Eurovision entry “New Tomorrow” with A Friend in London. But he also still plays the bass and is currently a part of de Forest’s band on tour.
It was very much the music that brought the two together. “The first time we wrote together we clicked. We see the world in much the same way and inspire each other, and most importantly, we have the music in common. He has been in the business for several years and understands how I feel and has supported me a lot,” de Forest said to BT.
“People with prejudice just don’t know any better”
“Our family and friends have known about the relationship but we have kept it from the press, because we have been in the begging stages where we needed peace to find each other. I also think it would be trivial to come forward after a month,” she said.
Twenty-year-old de Forest isn’t concerned about the age different of 22 years. “We both fall in love with people and don’t think about numbers. My dad was 17 years older than my mom, so for me there’s nothing unnatural about not being the same age. People with prejudice just don’t know any better.”
“More like a good friend than a stepmom”
Glæsner is the father of two boys, ages 7 and 10, from a former relationship, and de Forest has gotten the chance to spend some time with the kids. “It has gone really well. The boys are sweet and they are just playing and playing football. I feel more like a good friend than a stepmom. We go on trips, go to the zoo and such.”
De Forest starts her fall tour on October 18th in Flensburg, Germany and will tour Germany, Austria, and Denmark, with her boyfriend on board.
