Emmelie to sing 2014 theme song joined by the finalists

  • On February 7, 2014

Just before the voting of the Eurovision Song Contest 2014, last year’s winner Emmelie de Forest will sing the official theme song “Rainmaker” and be joined on stage by the 26 finalists to sing along.

DR, the host broadcaster, announced this today.

A fantastic way of gathering

“A few months ago we asked Emmelie to write the official #JoinUs song and we’re really happy that she accepted,” said the Head of Show Jan Lagermand Lundme to “From the beginning I’ve imagined all of the artists gathering on stage to sing together in the Grand Final.”

It is the image of all of all of the artists coming together that is the driver behind the idea. “I hope the viewers will be left with the impression that this was a fantastic way of gathering, just before we get to the tough part; finding the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2014,” Lundme said.

Join and help each other

In the video above, Emmelie explains that she wrote the song while on a writing trip to Stockholm. The general theme of “Rainmaker” is to join and help each other in times of need, incorporating the 2014 Join Us theme. It has been created by Emmelie herself, along with Swedish Fredrik Sonefors, and Emmelie’s boyfriend Jakob Schack Glæsner.

“Rainmaker” will premiere tomorrow at the national final of Malta. The official release date is February 24 and is the follow-up single to “Hunter & Prey.”
