Estonian selection for Eurovision has just gotten bigger

Eesti Laul has gotten bigger after a successful year.  Estonia’s representative Elina Born and Stig Rästa reached the seventh place in Vienna and also achieved a number one hit with Goodbye to yesterday.  After this successful experience, many Estonian acts have decided to follow in Elina’s and Stig’s footsteps.

According to ERR, the national broadcaster in Estonia for the Eurovision Song Contest, 238 songs were submitted (19 more songs than 2015’s season), making this year the most competitive selection they have ever made.  In fact, ERR has decided to move the final to their main arena, the Saku Suurhall.

A selection panel consisting in 11 music professionals (Anne Veski, Olavi Paide, Erik Morna, Toomas Puna, Ingrid Kohtla, Eeva Talsi, Owe Petersell, Eisi Mäeots, Siim Nestor, Valner Valme and Kira Evve) chose the 20 best songs.

The semi-finalists were revealed on the 5th of November during the TV-show Ringvaade.  These are the contestants who will compete to represent Estonia in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest:
