Austrian pop-rock group, The MakeMakes comprises of Dominic “Dodo” Muhrer, Markus Christ and Florian Meindl. The name of the group is taken from the dwarf planet, Makemake.
The MakeMakes released their debut single, “The Lovercall” in Austria, where it made it to the top ten on The Austrian Singles Chart. Their second single “Million Euro Smile”, released in 2014 made it to the second place on the chart.
In 2013, The MakeMakes were the opening act for Bon Jovi in Vienna Kriaeu.
In October ORF, revealed details of their selection format. Wer singt für Österreich? was to consist of four shows where the chosen acts would compete in a series of challenges. In December, ORF revealed their sixteen chosen competitors, with The Makemakes being among them.
The first show aired on February 20. The Makemakes auditioned with their own song “Million Euro Smile” and were one of the six acts chosen to progress.
The second show aired on February 27. Each act sang a cover song. The Makemakes covered “I Shot the Sheriff” by Bob Marley and, despite the show not being an elimination round, The Makemakes were voted one of the top three acts of the night.
Show three aired on March 6. Each act sang their two potential Eurovision entries. The Makemakes sang “I Am Yours” and “Big Bang”. “I Am Yours” was voted as the song that The Makemakes would perform in the final.
On March 13, the live final took place. Six acts performed their potential Eurovision songs. After an initial 50/50 jury vote and televote, The Makemakes and Dawa advanced to the superfinal. Both groups gave another performance of their songs. With 78% of the final votes, The Makemakes were declared the representatives for the home country, Austria, at Eurovision 2015.
