Elnur was born in Turkmenistan in 1987. At age five, Elnur learned to play piano. In the late nineties, Elnur’s family moved to Baku, Azerbaijan where he studied at medical school and received a degree in dentistry. He also sang in a choir at this time and attended Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. In 2003, Elnur won first prize in the musical competition, Sing Your Song, on Azerbaijani television.
Elnur was selected to represent Azerbaijan at Eurovision for the first time in 2008. Elnur sang the song “Day After Day” together with Samir Javadzadeh. They finished in a respectable 8th place in Belgrade.In June 2010, Elnur Hüseynov performed the part of Phoebus in the musical Notre-Dame de Paris in Heydar Aliyev Palace in Baku.
On a visit to Istanbul in 2014, Elnur auditioned to compete on The Voice of Turkey. Mentored on the show by Gökhan Özoğuz, Elnur went on to win the show in February 2015.
Elnur competed in Azerbaijan’s 2008 national selection against two other acts. Elnur won the show with the song “Day After Day” which he sang together with Samir Javadzadeh. The duo were Azerbaijan’s first representatives at Eurovision. The song finished in 8th place.
In 2010, Elnur applied to Azerbaijan’s national selection for Eurovision 2011, however, he did not reach the semi finals.On March 15, 2015, it was announced that Azerbaijani broadcaster, ITV, had internally selected Elnur as their representative for Eurovision 2015. An internal jury selected Elnur as the representative over two other acts, Narmina Behbudova and Narmina Seyidova.
Elnur’s song for Eurovision 2015 is called “Hour of the Wolf”.
