Born in Norway, Mørland has spent most of his adult life in the UK. This has been a great influence on his music as he draws inspiration from British artists such as David Bowie, Elton John and The Beatles. Mørland’s band, Absent Elk, have had a lot of attention in the UK, particularly after their cover version of Lady Gaga’s Pokerface received nearly half a million views on YouTube. Absent Elk were invited to be the support act for British group, Girl’s Aloud on their UK arena tour. Mørland has recently moved back to Norway to establish his solo career.Debrah was born in Norway but has spent most of her youth in Switzerland. Debrah impressed many people with her unique voice when she placed second on The Voice of Norway in 2013. Since then, she has been performing in Switzerland and Norway. Last year, Debrah moved back to Norway, hoping to establish herself as an artist.
Mørland asked Debrah to collaborate with him on his entry for MGP 2015, “A Monster Like Me”. They submitted the song to NRK in the summer of 2014.
During a press conference on January 21, NRK announced that Mørland and Debrah were among the eleven acts that would be competing in MGP’s final.MGP 2015 took place on March 14. After the eleven acts each performed their songs, the first public voting round took place. Mørland and Debrah were one of four acts chosen to move on to the Gold Final. After another performance, the final votes were given Mørland and Debrah had gained over 4000 votes more than the second place act. They were crowned the winners of MGP 2015, and Norway’s representatives for Eurovision 2015 in Vienna.
