During the allocation draw at Stockholm City Hall, SVT has unveiled the slogan and logo for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. For this year’s contest, the theme of “Come Together” will be used with a dandelion.
As the question of unity in Europe has dominated headlines over the past year, the slogan “Come Together” was unveiled to spread a hopeful message to the continent and the world.
“We believe that the idea of unity is as important today as it was in the 1950s when the Eurovision Song Contest started. The Eurovision Song Contest is never about borders, politics or ideologies. It is about reaching across all the boundaries that separates us human beings from each other,” said Eurovision executive producer, Martin Österdahl on the reason why “Come Together” was chosen.
Symbol of resilience and rebirth
The official graphic for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 was also unveiled as the seed head of a dandelion, which can be interpreted as lasting through tough conditions, and ultimately leading to a rebirth.
It is already easy to imagine the little seedlings flying through our screens similar to the butterflies in Malmö, with the beautiful image when they “Come Together” as one.
