Eurovision Village to be located at Vienna City Hall Square
One of the main squares in Vienna, the 2015 Eurovision host city, will host the Eurovision Village, namely the City Hall Square, or Rathausplatz.
This was announced by ORF, the 2015 host broadcaster.
The perfect stage
City Hall is located roughly 2,5 kilometers from the Wiener Stadthalle venue, about a 30 minute walk. “We have found an ideal and lively location with the City Hall Square for all fans, Vienna citizens, and guests of the city in the week of the final,” said ORF General Director Alexander Wrabetz to orf.at.
“City Hall Square in the middle of the city is the perfect stage to celebrate diversity, follow the shows, and to show the world that life in Vienna is both modern and traditional,” said the mayor of Vienna, Michael Häupl, to orf.at.
Every year, fans and inhabitants of the host city gather at Eurovision Village to watch Eurovision stars of past and present perform. Many other forms of entertainment and promotion also take place, from DJs to sing-alongs. The village becomes a gathering place for all those who didn’t get tickets for the live shows, as the live broadcasts are shown on large screens.
Eurovision Village will be open from May 17 to May 23.
