The first known participant of Melodifestivalen 2015 is Kalle!
While we are still around five months away from the usual start of the Swedish national selection Melodifestivalen, we already know the very first participant.
Seventeen-year-old Kalle Johansson has won the Swedish radio contest Svensktoppen Nästa and with it a ticket to the 2015 edition of the Swedish selection.
The radio contest is an opportunity for new and established artists, composers, and writers to showcase their talent to the country and Kalle won with the song “Den Där Dan,” written and produced by the teachers of the music academy he is attending. This will not be his Melodifestivalen entry, however, as the 2015 Eurovision songs cannot have been available publicly until tomorrow, September 1.
“It feels unbelievable, I’m so happy and grateful for everyone who has believed in me and voted for me,” Kalle said to radio station P4. Along with the Melodifestivalen ticket, the song will be put in regular rotation on P4, the biggest radio station in Sweden.
Last year, the group Eko won Svensktoppen Nästa and performed in Melodifestivalen with the song Red, though they did not qualify.
If the pattern of the past many years holds up, Melodifestivalen 2015 will start in early February.
