Iceland announces return of Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins!

Iceland is sticking with its selection format Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins for 2016, as the Icelandic national broadcaster RÚV announces that submissions will now be accepted!

2016 marks the 30th anniversary of the Icelandic selection show.

 

A trip Stockholm and a million kronúr

The deadline for submissions has been set to November 2. In addition to winning the right to represent the small island nation in Stockholm, the winner will also receive one million Icelandic kronúr, equal to about 7.000 euros.

In 2015, for the first time since 2007, Iceland failed to qualify for the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest, when María Ólafsdóttir sang “Unbroken” in Vienna. The song placed 15th, in front of San Marino and Switzerland.
