We are just about a week away from the prestigious Albanian music festival Festivali i Këngës, which also works as the Albanian national selection show for Eurovision.

Today we had the chance to speak with Julian Gjojdeshi, a participant of Festivali i Këngës with the song “Himn jetës.”

Hi Julian, thank you for sitting down with us!

Would you tell us a bit about yourself?

Talking about yourself is not very easy, but I can say that I have a rich artistic life, where participating in “Festivali i Këngës” is the cherry on the cake. I graduated in canto in 2010 with the instructor and the artist of the people, Gaqo Cako, who I thank very much because he was the person that taught me the first techniques about how I must sing as a tenor.

Then I was in many roles as a soloist in the “National Opera & Ballet Theater” in Albania, but also I had a lot of concerts in Italy, Germany, Greece, Montenegro, Macedonia etc. Also I’ve done a lot of teamwork with my colleague Kastriot Tusha and a videoclip that is on YouTube.

“This festival is the cherry on the cake”

How do you feel about being part of Festivali i Këngës?

As I said above, this festival is the cherry on the cake, which closes the season for me, and I’m feeling very proud and privileged about being part of this festival which features the biggest names of Albanian Music for years.

How did you decide to submit a song for Festivali i Këngës?

Participating in the festival was an offer from the composer of the song and my ex-instructor Mr. Vazo Tole, who has done a great job, and I thank him for his work with this elegant material, an original material that is hard to find and at least Albanian material where I’ll sing in the biggest festival of Albania.

Also I want to thank Fatos Arapi who wrote the lyrics of song, because when you’ll listen to the song, the lyrics are so meaningful. Of course I want to thank Klodian Qafoku, who is one of the collaborators of song and for his offer in which he did me as the singer.

How was your song created?

For creation of the song, you must ask the composer Mr. Vaso Tole, who could talk more about how he created song.

“The only secret about the song is
it is 100% Albanian”

Could you give us a little secret about your song “Himn jetës”?

For the song, I don’t want to reveal too much but I can say that a song created by Vaso Tole with meaningful lyrics by Fatos Arapi comes just once in 100 years. The only secret about the song is that it is “100% Albanian.”

What are your plans for performance in Festivali i Këngës?

The song is very difficult by the vocal; it needs very good vocal techniques. My first plans for the performance in the festival is to focus well on the song, because there, everything is live and the foremost is that song to be performed very well, and for more I’ll think these few days.

Did you see the list of participants?

Yes, I saw the list, and I saw that it has very big names and I respect all of them. I am sure that the festival will be great, the best edition in Festivali’s history with these names.

“For the Eurovision Song Contest,
I can say that it is a dream for every singer”

Which are your future plans, and what if you’ll represent Albania in Eurovision Song Contest?

Yes, I have a lot of plans, because I just started my carrier, and I think my plans will pass the borders. I think very seriously because I am very conscious and aware of the skills that nature gave me and my work that I’ve done to arrive here. For the Eurovision Song Contest, I can say that it is a dream for every singer, but this is not the reason why I will sing in Festivali. This is the biggest festival in Albania and this is enough. In Eurovision will go just one song, and if it will be mine, Albania will be in safe hands.

Are you a Eurovision fan?

I always follow Eurovision Song Contest since Albania participated for the first time. It is a great contest, where the best singers of Europe represent their own country.

Which Eurovision Song from Albania do you like?

I like some songs, but sure I’ll choose Rona which represented us with her vocal and song as the best.

What do you think about last time’s winner Conchita Wurst and her song?

I have very positive thoughts for the song, I think it deserved winning because the music was very good and also the vocals were very clear, which showed the song very well.

Do you have any message for our readers?

I wish all the bests for your readers, happy holidays and I wish the new year 2015 will give you much more luck, peace and happiness. I wish much more success for all of you and thank you for your interest for “Festivali i Këngës.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
