Interview with Nina Janeva: 2015 hopeful for Macedonia
  • On November 11, 2014

Nina Janeva, a participant of the Macedonian national final “SkopjeFest 2014” with song “Bluz za..”, answered our questions about Skopje Fest and herself.

Hi Nina! Thank you for speaking with us!

Could you please tell us a little about yourself and how you got started in music?
I am 28 years old, and I have been within the music circles for almost 20 years. When I was 9, I sang in the Children’s Choir of the Macedonian Radio Television. Then I was taking private lessons for solo singing. When I was 17, I won a national selection called “Play in search for new talents” and I have been on the scene ever since. My producer in M2 production was the composer and producer of Elena Risteska’s Eurovision entry “Ninanajna,” 2013’s “Pred da se razdeni” of Esma and Lozano (when I was a back vocal in Malmö) , and Tijana’s “To the Sky” – Darko Dimitrov. During the time as an exclusive singer of M2 Production, we made an album called “Before midnight” as a female pop-rock group of four girls.
Last year I participated on Skopje Fest for the first time, and I can only say that it was amazing to work with the orchestra of the Macedonian Radio Television, a great honor above all.

How do you feel about being part of Skopje Fest?
This is not the first time for me to be a part of this kind of event, and it is always a great pleasure and honor to stand on a big stage with a beautiful orchestra.

How did you decide to submit a song for Skopje Fest?
This year I was busy planning other performances, and I didn’t have the time to think about applying for Skopje Fest 2014. But a month ago, the music producer called me and said that one of the contestants gave up, and that he wants me to be a part of it. At first I was having second thoughts, but after I heard the song I absolutely loved it, and changed my mind instantly.

How was the song created?
I worked with a producer from Macedonia who lives and teaches keyboard in Canada named Davor Jordanovski, and the lyrics were written by one of our most famous actors, Toni Mihajlovski.

Could you tell us a little secret about the song?
The song is dedicated to my boyfriend Vladimir who is my very own muse :) It’s plain blues, and it is filled with emotions.

What are your plans for the performance in Skopje Fest?
I intend to sing alone, and to do a LED screen show, and a light show.

What do you think of the other participants at Skopje Fest?
I thought “Oh, good! We are gonna have so much fun again :) ”

What are your future plans if you get to represent Macedonia?
I’ll think about it then. :) I never think in advance. :)

Are you a Eurovision fan yourself?
Not quite a fan, but I watch it every year. :)

Which Eurovision songs from Macedonia are your favorites?
“Ninanajna” by Elena, “Crno i belo” by Kaliopi, and “Life” by my very good friend Tose Proeski.

What did you think of Conchita Wurst, the 2014 winner?
The song was amazing, I heard it like a few times, and I said that it’s going to win. :)

Do you have a special message for our readers?
People, live with music every day <3
