After beginning a promising solo career following his Eurovision win in 2011, we once again sat down with Eldar Gasimov, in hopes to find out what he is up to and to reflect more on his Eurovision 2011 experience.

Hi Eldar! Thank you for taking the time to sit down with us for a brief interview.

First off, how did you meet Nigar?

We met at the national preselection for Eurovision 2011 in Baku. She looked beautiful and shy.

You looked quite shocked when you won Eurovision. Who was your winner except you?

Shocked? No, I was happy :) That’s how my happiness looks. I loved a lot of participants that year. Eric Saade was fantastic. I love almost all of the Swedish entries, so I would let him win!

“I was very, very upset when they didn’t make it to the final”

If you could pick another country to qualify from that year, which would it be?

I’d choose Turkey. I was very, very upset when they didn’t make it to the final, and not because they are our neighbor as many may think. I’m very far from such things. I just loved their performance!!

You also got to host Eurovision in Baku. Was that your wish or were you chosen?

BOTH! It was my dream to be part of this celebration of music once again, and they wanted to make it fabulous so we all did it!

“I lived my dream”

How were your weeks in Düsseldorf?

It was amazing and hard, but lovely. I lived my dream, but did not think about it while rehearsing and doing thousands of interviews. It’s just my life and I guess I was born to be on the stage. That’s the only place for me full of love, energy, and life.

Did you have any other favorites from that year?

Oh yes. Nadine from Austria, Eric from Sweden, and BLUE from United Kingdom.

Is there a chance you would return to Eurovision with a song?

Oh no, no, it’s done and if I’d win once again, it wouldn’t be as great as the first time, I’m sure.

“In 5 years? Definitely on the stage”

Where do you want to see yourself in the next 5 years?

So many fantastic plans. In 5 years? Definitely on the stage, sharing all my life with fans. Happy family probably.. There are plans I don’t wanna share now, I wanna show later!

Will you be in Vienna and will you be in the 60th Celebration Show?

Hopefully yes! I love Eurovision, so I’m always happy to be a part of it, but all the things in my life depend on my job, so let’s hope we see each other soon!

Thank you so much Eldar, and good luck in the future!
