It's Molly Smitten-Downes for the United Kingdom!
It will indeed be Molly Smitten-Downes who will represent the United Kingdom in the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2014, in Copenhagen, Denmark!
She will compete with the song “Children of the Universe,” which she composed herself.
While BBC executive producer Guy Freeman signaled a departure from the selections of well-established artists in favor of unknown artists, 26 year-old Molly is not an inexperienced musician.
Molly achieved great success as a member of the group STUNT, most notably with the song “Raindrops,” which was later reworked into a club hit by German DJ SASH! achieving a 9th place on the British charts in 2008.
Recently, Molly has been awarded the “Best Song” at The Best of British Unsigned Music for her song “Lost Generation,” and has been playing live with her band around the United Kingdom.
On her Facebook page, Molly lists mostly pop artists as her influences, such as Madonna, Lady GaGa, Kylie Minogue, and Nelly Furtado, but also Dolly Parton, Billie Holiday, and Ella Fitzgerald.
As a Big 5 country, the United Kingdom is directly qualified for the Grand Final on May 10. As determined in the draw in Copenhagen, the United Kingdom will vote in the second semi-final.
