Jamala arrives home to Ukraine following Eurovision 2016
After her victory in Stockholm, Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, hundreds of people gathered at the airport to welcome Jamala.
After she landed in Boryspil International Airport, Jamala faced many happy and proud Ukrainan people, fans, and press. They were all anxious to congratulate her after her achievement. They welcomed her by the national anthem of Ukraine and by giving her flowers in national colours.
After two weeks in Stockholm, she was so touched and even overwhelmed with that warm welcome by the Ukrainian people, that she even cried. Jamala, never dreamed to see and live this experience. She thanked everybody for all the support that she received during Eurovision and for the warm reception at the airport as well.
Busy Eurovision Schedule
After she stepped off the plane, Jamala concluded that it was the most difficult time of her life, she said the fact that the rehearsals were going from morning to night and many interviews, she was afraid that the voice will not get enough time to rest, because she was singing and speaking.
“We really needed this joy, this victory. For me it means that my story was heard. Europe believed in us and voted. Justice exists. When you do something from a pure heart, you will definitely be heard,” said Jamala to the journalists.
The Ukraine people are very anxious for next year’s show, in fact Timur Miroshnychenko said: “ We will definitely make something special. ”
Looking to 2017
Miroshnychenko, a Ukranian TV presenter and commentator, stepped off the plane with an empty bottle of champagne. He told the media how difficult and exciting it was till the last seconds, since no one knew who is going to take the trophy home. The Ukrainian delegation said that they had no words to express their feeling of the victory, when the results were announced. Timur added that the Swedes have made the most amazing show, added that it was something unreal and it was definitely the best Eurovision in terms of audience. He concluded that he doesn’t know how to make it next year at least not worse than it was, but definitely we will make something special.
After her victory, Jamala was crowned People’s Artist of Ukraine by the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko.
What’s to come
After all this the Director General of the national broadcaster in Ukraine (NTU), Zurab Alasaniia, said that the first steps that should be made on the way of the hosting of Eurovision are that first there will be an audit of what we have to do, what we want, and what we can reach to find a balance. It will be the first working meeting with EBU, they will mark our tasks and assignments. They will take their part and we will here take ours. He concluded that they will look for the opportunities to fulfill everything.
Over the coming weeks the EBU’s Executive Supervisor for the Eurovision Song Contest will meet with all the representatives of NTU so that will discuss plans for Eurovision 2017. The provisional dates are May 16, 18, and 20, 2017.
