Justin Timberlake named as Eurovision 2016 interval act

Justin Timberlake named as Eurovision 2016 interval act

In an odd turn of events, SVT and the EBU have announced that Justin Timberlake will headline the interval act of the Grand Final on Saturday.

This comes as purely surprising since Timberlake and USA have no context or connection to the Eurovision Song Contest. The farthest reach possible is that the song that Timberlake will perform is by Swedish songwriters Shellback and Max Martin. The song is called “Can’t Stop The Feeling!.”

Another explanation is that this is a PR stunt to gain an audience for the first time that the contest is broadcast in USA, in hopes to gain an audience.

On Facebook, Twitter, and the Eurovision.tv article itself, the reactions are mixed at best, with confusion to the connection of Timberlake to the contest in most. Many reactions warn of interval act outshining the competing songs themselves.

After the non-European addition of Australia in 2015, is the EBU planning on adding USA to Eurovision next year as well?
