Kasey Smith interview: “If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again”
Eric Nocito

With less than three weeks before the Eurovision rehearsals begin, ESC reporter had the chance to speak to this year’s Irish entrant Kasey Smith of the group Can-Linn.

Kasey revealed her intentions of participating in Eurovision 2014 and what she wants to bring to the contest.

Thank you for speaking with us, Kasey!

You have competed in the Irish national selection in the past. What made you come back this year with Can-Linn?

Hi :) Well I’m a firm believer of the saying “if at first you don’t succeed, try and try again,” and obviously once I heard the song, it made it very hard to say no. I fell in love with it within seconds.

Do you feel any pressure from representing your country in the contest?

Of course, I think every representative of every country will feel pressure. All you wanna do is make them proud and do the best you can do. So we’re gonna get up on the stage on the night and hopefully everyone will fall in love with “Heartbeat” like we did.

“It’s a very spiritual and positive song”

Your song is called “Heartbeat” – what is it about and what was the inspiration?

It’s a very spiritual and positive song. It’s about coming out of the darkness into the light and to never give up hope. There is always light in the end.

Are you planning any promotion or touring before Eurovision?.

We shall be doing a few gigs, but most of all I can’t wait to meet all the other countries. I love meeting new people and cultures and the Eurovison is an amazing way of bringing everyone together through music.

Are you planning any changes to your performance for Eurovision?

We have a great show but unfortunately we can’t give away any surprises. But we can’t wait for you all to see on the night!

What do you hope people will remember you for once Eurovision is over?

Hard worker, passionate. and hopefully we will do well in the Eurovision Song Contest. :)

Do you have any favorite Eurovision songs from previous years?

I love Loreen and “Euphoria.” Her song still goes through my head and I find myself singing it a lot. :)

Do you have a special message for the readers of

Yes, thanks for reading my interview and for everyone that has supported ‘Heartbeat,” new and old supporters it means so much. :)

Thanks again, Kasey! See you in Copenhagen!

Can-Linn feat. Kasey Smith will perform 9th in the second semi-final on May 8 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
