Kitty, Remixed: An interview with Eurovision hopeful Kitty Brucknell!

Kitty, Remixed: An interview with Eurovision hopeful Kitty Brucknell!

| On 26, Jan 2015

Kitty Brucknell has been busy this Eurovision season. She initially sought to represent Switzerland but has found success in Moldova where she will compete in the national final with her song, “Remix”! We had the opportunity to talk to her about her success in the live audition stage and her forthcoming national final performance.

First of all, thank you for talking to us today Kitty! What have you been up since we last spoke to you?

Things have gone mental since I came back from Moldova, I’m really excited because there is so much happening and I’m so grateful that they picked me. It means everything to me and I’m really happy that I was chosen.

How does your new song, Remix, differ from Yearning”?

It’s a very happy and upbeat song so I’m very excited to be able to perform it, it is completely different [from Yearning]. I think we can do something special with it. We’re really trying to grab people’s attention with the song, definitely!

What was your inspiration for Remix?

It’s a song about reinvention and never ever giving up. That’s why it says, “Reason To Fight.”

Have you been enjoying your time in Moldova?

Absolutely, it has been amazing! We had a fantastic time in Moldova and I can’t wait to go back.

Do you have a favourite Moldovan entry from the past few contests?

I liked the girl from last year – Wild Soul, but she didn’t make the finals :(

Do you have a staging theme in mind for your new song?

Sort of – I’m going to be speaking with some creative directors and seeing what they can come up with. I want it to be insane but my management are being strict on the budget! We can’t go too overboard or I’ll have nothing left in my bank account haha!

How did you prepare for the live audition stages?

The one thing that I asked was, “Is this a casual audition? Can you just turn up in jeans and stand on stage?” and they said yes. So I went all out! I figured that if they were telling everyone it was a casual audition and I turned up in hot pants and a sparkly top, I’d stand out.

How does it feel to be part of a pan-European music show compared to your experience on the X Factor?

It’s so incredible. It’s an amazing opportunity to promote not just myself throughout Europe but a whole country as well. After meeting everyone there and visiting – I felt like I wanted to really represent this country and show everyone what it’s like there. It’s a really fascinating place. The food and the wine is amazing!!! X Factor was sometimes quite negative, so this is like a breath of fresh air to me. I have struggled so much in the last 4 years to get my lucky break and I really feel like this is my chance. I’m so insanely grateful.

How do you feel about the competition in Moldova and do you have a favourite among your competitors?

I love Sunstroke Project, I think they are awesome. I’d vote for them. The compeition is really strong this year so it will be a real challenge but I’m excited!

What are your plans beyond Eurovision?

Well I want to release an acoustic EP and then also we are planning on a proper single release in the UK and Europe. That’s probably at the end of the year – but it’s very exciting!

Do you have a message for the new fans you have gained throughout your time in the Eurovision circuit?

I want to say this – that no matter where you are, or where you are from, anyone can be a Kitty Diva. Being a Kitty Diva isn’t just about wearing silly wigs and crazy outfits – but it’s about believing in yourself and never ever giving up. I am so excited to share this journey with everyone. It means everything to me.
