At 15:00 CET today, the first dress rehearsal of the first semi-final took place.

This was the first time that the whole show was run through, and complete with a live audience.

Few glitches

The first dress rehearsal, though, unsurprisingly had its share of hitches.

The venue was filled with children, and there was a lot of confusion from the staff on where the press could go. Other than that, colorful chandeliers were hung in the lobby, as well as a bar and merchandise shops being set up.

Emmelie de Forest opens the show

The show pretty much started on time, with an opening sequence. It was a compilation of people’s recordings of themselves singing “Only Teardrops” from around the world. All the windows of the singers were shown all moving towards Copenhagen and forming “#JoinUS” in the sky.

From there, Eurovision 2013 winner, Emmelie de Forest, entered the stage and sang her winning entry along with a troupe of children and teenagers, while the singing people’s windows continued to travel onscreen, into the venue.

After a runthrough of the opening, the stage manager said that there were technical errors, so the entire opening was done again.

Few changes of the performers

In the 10 seconds of Tanja’s performance, the sound was noticeably distorted, to almost the sound of a tapping drum.

The Tolmachevy Sisters came out for their performance in the same custom dresses from their second rehearsals, but minus the pillbox hats that they sported previously.

Mariya Yaremchuk wore a new dress, a very dark blue, silk with leather accents and an open thigh area. This dress was specially designed for Mariya by Ukrainian designer Anna Osmekhina, and was made from curtains.

Suzy from Portugal had on a different dress. It was the dress that the stage manager tested onstage for the lighting during her second rehearsal. It was a red variation of the dress from her national final.

The Ugly Duckling – the interval act

The interval act was a modern-day rendition through dance of the Hans Christian Andersen story “The Ugly Duckling.” Throughout the show, there were sequences called “Eurovision Book of Records,” where surprisingly, Jedward, was live in the pit area of the audience. Later, they made another appearance, and a Verka Serduchka stand-in did the same, adding suspicions that he/she will be in attendance tomorrow night.

After, the countdown was done by hosts, Pilou and Nikolaj. It was repeated afterward for an undisclosed reason. From then, the faux qualifiers were announced, concluding the show.

The second dress rehearsal will transpire tonight at 21:00 CET and will be the show for which the jury votes for Semi-Final 1.
