Tonight, Austria chose their representative entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 and it’s The Makemakes with ‘I Am Yours!’
The host of Wer singt für Österreich was Mirjam Weichselbraun, who will be one of the hosts of Eurovision 2015 in Vienna in May.
The 6 acts that took part in the final were as follows:
- Folkshilfe – Who You Are
- Zoe – Quel Filou
- DAWA – Feel Alive
- Celina Ann – Utopia
- Johann Sebastian Bass – Absolutio
- The Makemakes – I Am Yours
DAWA and The Makemakes moved forward to the superfinal after the first voting cycle. DAWA and Zoe accrued the same number of points but DAWA advanced to the superfinal because they had more public televotes. The winner of the superfinal was chosen by a 50:50 combination of international jury votes and public televotes.
Conchita Wurst was a strong influence on the final show of Wer singt für Österreich. The six finalists performed ‘Rise Like a Phoenix’ together combining their various styles. Conchita also used the gap between the performances as the results to perform her new single, ‘Unstoppable.’
In addition to Conchita, the Austrian selection show paid homage to Udo Jürgens, the only previous winner for Austria who died in December, by singing his winning song from 1966: ‘Merci Chérie.’
Austria will compete in the Grand Final on May 23 in Vienna as they won the 2014 contest.
