Malta chooses for Eurovision 2015 in November under new rules
Another national final has been announced, as Maltese broadcaster PBS informs that their selection for Eurovision 2015 will take place on November 21 and 22.
This is much earlier than the usual late January or early February show we have seen from Malta in previous years.
On the Junior Eurovision stage
The show is one week after the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014, being hosted by Malta. Taking advantage of this fact, the broadcaster will host the national selection on the very same stage as the Junior contest.
This concept is also seen in Denmark, where the kids’ contest MGP is hosted on the same stage as the adult DMGP a week prior.
Song may be changed
While this means we will know who will represent Malta in Eurovision next year by November, we will not necessarily know with which song.
The new rules state that while the winner of the national final will get to represent Malta, the song could be entirely changed. The author, composer, and singer will have to remain the same, but are otherwise free to make adjustments, changes, or even scrap the winning song.
PBS says that the early final and create freedom with regards to the song will allow them to submit the perfect song for Eurovision in Austria.
Submissions for the Maltese national selection are opened by PBS on August 28 and 29.
