Mirjam Weichselbraun to host Austrian preliminary rounds
More details of the Austrian selection have been revealed. Austria will be using a format inspired by this year’s Eurovision slogan, Building Bridges.
A team of Austrian music experts including Anna F, will go to different regions in Austria, searching for acts suitable to represent the home country at Eurovision 2015.
Anna F says that they are currently looking for 20 acts, solo artists, or groups to perform in the preliminary rounds. She also says that she will act as a coach and be there for the acts when they need her.
Austrian television presenter Mirjam Weichselbraun will be the host of the first rounds, due to air on ORF in February 2015. Mirjam was co-host of the Austrian Eurovision selection in 2005, which was won by Global Kryner. She is also famous in Austria for hosting the Austrian version of “Dancing With The Stars.”
The Austrian selection will consist of four shows, three pre-recorded shows and one live show. The first show will see 20 acts of different genres perform before a live audience and a panel of music experts. The panel will select six acts. In the second and third show, these six acts will have the opportunity to showcase their potential, in different parts of Austria.
ORF will appoint internationally accomplished songwriters to write two possible Eurovision songs. Rumored songwriters include Julie Frost who wrote Satellite for Lena Meyer-Landrut and American producer Jimmy Harry, who has produced hits for Bruno Mars, Pink, and Madonna.
The winner, and Austria’s representative for the 60th contest will be chosen 50% by televoting and 50% by juries.
Austria won the contest for the second time in 2014, with drag queen Conchita Wurst and “Rise Like A Phoenix.”
