ORF announces 2015 venue details
With less than three weeks since Conchita Wurst won Eurovision 2014 for Austria, national broadcaster ORF is already in the planning stage for their hosting of the contest in 2015.
ORF has released a document online that has outlined the information and requirements around the venue and hosting next year.
Back in March, the EBU set the preliminary dates for the 2015 shows as May 12, 14, and 16. All has remained silent since then.
In the release by ORF, the broadcaster states their preferred dates for the live shows as May 19, 21, and 23. Whether these will be the new dates is still unknown.
As usual, the requirements for the venue is that they are available to have the venue clear for the six weeks prior to the end of the shows. ORF has also requested that the venue be sealed from daylight and be climate-controlled. There will be no open-air venue in 2015.
Also, audience capacity must be at least 10,000 people in the venue.
Press and Artists
ORF stated that the preferred venue must have the facilities for 50 commentator cabins, two catering halls, dressing and viewing rooms, etc.
Also, they are aiming for the press center to be at the arena, with room for a canteen, lounge, press conference area, workroom, all with an area of approximately 4,000 m2. ORF has stated that around 1,500 journalists will attend Eurovision 2015.
If and when Vienna is chosen as the host city of Eurovision 2015, it is important to note that the venue Wiener Stadthalle is capable of meeting all the physical requirements for hosting, including the on-site facilities for the press and VIP.
