Organizers reveal running order of Eurovision 2016 semi-finals
Since 2013, when the Swedish host broadcaster introduced the practice, the organizers of the Eurovision Song Contest have decided the running orders of the shows, in order to ensure that each song gets the best chance to stand out.
Today, the running order for the 2016 semi-finals were revealed.
Finland and Latvia open the shows
The dubious honor of opening the shows have been given to Finland and Latvia for their respective semi-finals, while Malta and Belgium close theirs.
The producers have not been in full control of the running order, as the countries were allocated into halves of the semi-finals at the semi-final allocation draw in January, but control the order within the halves.
The running order of the Grand Final will be finalized immediately after the second semi-final has concluded in May.
6. The Netherlands
8. San Marino
10. Czech Republic
17. Bosnia & Herzegovina
8. FYR Macedonia
Stand out and shine for three minutes
“My goal is to give every song maximum space so it’s surrounded by other songs that make it stand out and shine for three minutes. This also reduces the anxiety surrounding where a country is placed in the running order. Wherever the artist is singing they have a chance to be noticed,” said Christer Björkman, producer of the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, to Eurovision.tv.
