Ovidiu Anton with a "Moment of Silence" to Eurovision for Romania

The Romanian selection show Selecția Națională 2016 came to an end today, crowning Ovidiu Anton with a “Moment of Silence” as the entry to represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.
The People’s Choice
Six finalists competed to represent Romania, where the winner would be the entrant to receive the highest amount of public votes.

- Ovidiu Anton – “Moment of Silence” – 6,585 votes
- Vanotek feat. The Code & Georgian – “I’m Coming Home” – 4,702 votes
- Florena – “Behind the Shadows” – 3,491 votes
- Dream Walkers – “Let It Shine” – 2,332 votes
- Mihai – “Paradisio” – 2,142 votes
- Doru Todoruț feat. Irina Baianț – “The Voice” – 1,235 votes
Moment of Silence
The song by Ovidiu Anton is quite theatrical and might answer the question, “What would a Game of Thrones musical look like?”
The staging sees Ovidiu and his backup singers dressed in goth-rock outfits, and instead of a back-up dancer, we have a sword swinger in a leather harness. The vocal performance is strong with hints of Meatloaf‘s rock opera style.
Romania has thus far qualified to every Eurovision final since the semi-final format was introduced.
Rise of the Cezar
To fullfill the answer to a “What if…” for some Eurovision fans, viewers were treated to Eurovision 2013 representative Cezar singing Conchita‘s “Rise Like a Phoenix” in a few different octaves. You can check out the interesting rendition below, the song begins at the 6:30 mark.
