Report from first dress rehearsal of the Grand Final of Eurovision 2015!

Report from first dress rehearsal of the Grand Final of Eurovision 2015!
Eric Nocito

Today, at 14:00 CET, the first dress rehearsal of Saturday’s Grand Final took place at the Eurovision venue, the Wiener Stadthalle.

The full show was rehearsed from start to end for the first time, including the opening, 27 performances, interval acts, and voting.

The opening

The Grand Final opens with an introductory video, which leads into a violin performance of Rise Like a Phoenix, and further into Conchita Wurst appearing on a platform in the middle of the audience, singing this year’s theme song “Building Bridges” with a childrens’ choir. She then introduces the hosts Alice, Arabella, and Mirjam, who walk onto the stage, also singing the song. To join them, Conchita is hoisted into the air and flown over the audience.

Following a welcome from the hosts, all 27 participating countries walk through the audience to the stage, and are joined by flagbeares with the 27 flags. The artists did immediately realize they all had to walk down at the same time, causing that segment to be restarted.

While the stage is cleared, a video of the “Building Bridges” video project is played. In total, it takes 20 minutes before the Slovenian postcard starts.

The voting

After a check-in with Executive Supervisor Jon Ola Sand, and a plug for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest with Italian winner Vincenco Cantiello, the voting begins. Mirjam and Alice stand at their podium and the scoreboard is displayed on the back LED wall. Before calling each country, Vienna is shown in the following country’s language.
