Now that the broadcasting rights for the Eurovision Song Contest reverts back to the channel “Россия-1” (“Rossiya-1”) in 2014, so does the selection format for their entry.

Today, in a press release (in Russian only) on their official website, the channel announced an open competition for the representation of Russia at Eurovision 2014.  The project is titled, “Кто? (Who?).”

The press release states that the selection process will last for the next two months, and the winner will be chosen by only the votes of TV-viewers.

The channel encourages all hopeful and talented candidates to apply for the chance to represent Russia.  They are looking for confident, artistic applicants with amazing voices who can lead the country to victory once again.  The date of the televised final has been set for December 31, 2013.

In 2012, Rossiya-1 opted for a national final format for their selection.  Russia ultimately chose Buranovskiye Babushki as their representative and achieved the 2nd place in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku. In 2013,  through internal selection, Channel One Russia chose Dina Garipova, who got 5th in Malmö.
