Sanna Nielsen and Robin Paulsson host Melodifestivalen 2015!
In 2014, she won Melodifestivalen and brought home a third place for Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen.
Next year, she will host Melodifestivalen for the first time. Sanna Nielsen is back!
Today, SVT announced the couple that will host the next edition of the popular selection show in Sweden. The 2014 Swedish representative at Eurovision, Sanna Nielsen, was selected along with Robin Paulsson, an experienced TV-host.
The two hosts were selected on the criteria of “happiness and warmth.”
An eighth appearance
Sanna Nielsen is no stranger to Melodifestivalen, having competed an impressive seven times to get to the victory, never missing the final. This will be her eighth appearance, but from a completely new perspective.
“It feels amazing. I’m so stoked for this, a challenge I’m truly ready for,” she said to svt.se.
To Sanna, it has been a secret dream for a while to host the big event. But, it will be a big debut, as she has no previous hosting experience. SVT is confident, however, as she impressed the Melodifestivalen team doing test filming.
A viewer favorite
The male half of the 2015 host couple, 30-year-old Robin Paulsson, has his background in stand-up comedy, both performing and writing material for several comedy shows in Sweden. On his website he lists Don Rickles as his favorite foreign comedian.
In recent years he has built experience hosting big award shows and had his own talk show on SVT, going on the 11th season. A few years ago, he won a viewer poll of favorite to host Melodifestivalen and now he gets a shot at it.
Hopes of improvement
The two hosts combine some very relevant experience, with Robin bringing the knowledge of hosting and humor, and Sanna bringing the knowledge of what it is like to be in Melodifestivalen.
The host couple is a part of what SVT hopes will improve Melodifestivalen, after the beatings it took in 2014 from bad script writing and hosts that fell flat.
The 2015 core team consists of Executive Producer Christer Björkman, Project Manager Maria Ilstedt, and Christel Tholse Willers, who worked on the Swedish hosting job of Eurovision in 2013. She will oversee the development of Melodifestivalen for the next three years, where a new brand platform will be introduced, along with new core values and guidelines. If this means a new visual identity is on the way for Melodifestivalen is unknown, but at the host reveal event today, the logo did not say “2015.”
Melodifestivalen 2015 starts February 7, and travels across Sweden for six weeks.
