Semi-final allocation draw takes place for Eurovision 2016
A press conference was held earlier Monday at the Stockholm City Hall to determine the semi-final allocations for the countries competing in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.
The results of the draw were:
Semi Final 1
- First Half
- San Marino
- Bosnia & Herzegovina
- Czech Republic
Semi Final 2
- FYR Macedonia
Less chance for predictable results
The draws were done from 6 pots, which consisted of countries with similar voting patterns . This was to minimise the effects of “neighbour voting” in hopes of having more unpredictable semi-final results. Ahead of the allocations, Israel was already granted a spot in the second semi-finals, as the first semi-finals would be taking place on a memorial day for the country.
When will the big five and host country vote?
It was also determined that France, Spain, and Sweden would vote in the first semi-finals, while Germany, the United Kingdom and Italy would in the second semi-finals. Germany was already allocated to vote in the second semi-finals after the German national broadcaster ARD requested permission from the governing body of the Eurovision Song Contest, the Reference Group.
Stockholm City Hall will once again be in Eurovision news as it will host the opening red carpet gala, Sunday May 8th. As for the exact running order, this will be unveiled at a later date.
