Stage of Melodifestivalen 2016 revealed!
The Swedish selection show for the Eurovision Song Contest, Melodifestivalen, starts up again in two weeks.
Now, the stage that will host the performances and eventual Swedish representative has been revealed by SVT.
Two sides and a floating green room
Similar to the look of the Copenhagen Eurovision Song Contest stage, the background appears to be constructed from cubes. The right side will show LED footage, unlike the Copenhagen projection, while the left side will use lighting effects.
The left side will also host a floating green room, hoisted 4 meters above the floors, connecting to the main stage with a staircase.
Making it more intimate
One ambition with the stage is to make the contest more intimate, something SVT loves. The same was said about the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest stage, as well as the upcoming 2016 stage.
With the 2016 Melodifestivalen stage, the edge of the stage floor is rounded into the audience with a bent rail cam, creating new looks for TV.
Also behind the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest stage
The stage has been designed by veteran Swedish stage designers Viktor Brattström and Frida Arvidsson.
The team has been behind most of the Melodifestivalen stages in the past 10 years, as well the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest stage in Malmö. Like 2013, the duo is also currently working on the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest stage alongside Melodifestivalen, but the double work is doable as a team. “It helps that we are two. The most intensive phases of the projects mostly don’t overlap, but comes in individual sprints now and then,” said Viktor Brattström to svt.se.
It is likely that the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest stage will be revealed this Monday, along with the theme artwork and logo.
Melodifestivalen 2016 stars with semi-final 1 on February 6 at 20:00 CET.
