Switzerland: SRF begins search for Eurovision 2016 candidates!
It has been just two months since Eurovision 2015 concluded and Switzerland is now ready to kick off with their plans for Eurovision 2016.
SRF of Switzerland has announced that they will be sticking with their usual format in order to select an entrant for next year’s contest in Stockholm.
German language broadcaster SRF will collaborate with Rumantsch language broadcaster RTR, in order to select their potential candidates for the Swiss national final, via an internet platform.
SRF will have three phases in their selection process:
1. SRF and RTR have invited candidates to upload video clips of their songs on the Swiss online platform from September 28 to October 26. After this submission period, online voters and an expert jury will select the top ten entries, which will move on to the Expert Check.
2. The ten selected participants will join six participants internally selected by French language broadcaster, RTS, and three participants internally selected by Italian language broadcaster, RSI. The nineteen acts will perform live in front of an expert jury. The expert jury will then choose six acts to participate in the Swiss national final.
3. The six finalists will perform their entries and one cover version of a well-known song at Switzerland’s 2016 national final. The show will take place in the Bodensee Arena in Kreuzlingen on February 13. A 50/50 vote from televoters and an expert jury will select the winner of the show and the Swiss representative for Eurovision 2016.
This year, Mélanie René represented Switzerland with her self-penned song, “Time To Shine”. She finished in last place at semi final two, with four points.
