The European Broadcaster Union (EBU) has announced that Swedish telecommunications company Tele2 has been selected as the official mobile operator for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm.

In 2013, Telia was chosen as the official operator.

Engage millions

According to the Executive Supervisor, Jon Ola Sand, Tele2 will provide the required communications infrastructure to “engage millions through televoting and… reach out to those watching the event online throughout the rest of the world.”

Tele2 has been granted extensive pan-European association, event, media, and new-media rights for the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm.

Elevating the event

According to Tele2 CEO, Thomas Ekman, being the official mobile operator is only one of the company’s contributions to the contest. Additionally, Tele2 is providing the Tele2 Arena, a venue where the company can engage with their customers and all Eurovision visitors. In Ekman’s words, the Tele2 Arena will be a central place during the finals. He further states that Tele2 will elevate the event to a whole new level.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2016 airs live from Globen Arena in Stockholm on May 10, 12, and 14.
