TG4 announce plans for Ireland’s first Junior Eurovision selection!
Emma Kiernan

In November, for the first time ever, Ireland will participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

Now, Irish language broadcaster TG4 has released some details regarding the national selection.

An experienced Eurovision panel

The shows will be hosted by The Voice of Ireland host, Eoghan McDermott. The panel of judges will be headed by Eurovision 1993 winner, Niamh Kavanagh. She will be joined by Ireland’s 2006 representative, Brian Kennedy and Stiofán Ó Fearail from Seo Linn, the band behind viral Youtube hits with Coláiste Lurgan.

Five weeks of shows

The shows are scheduled to be prerecorded in Dublin soon and will begin airing on October 11. The show will air every Sunday for five weeks. In each show, young singers will sing original Irish language compositions, with the best making it to the final.

The winner of TG4’s selection show will go on to be Ireland’s first ever representative at Junior Eurovision in Sofia, Bulgaria on November 21.
