The biggest Eurovision selection of them all, the Swedish Melodifestivalen, returns to TV tonight when the first semi-final of four airs live from Göteborg.

While the format has been downsized to seven songs per show, tonight’s includes a former winner!

Tonight’s seven songs

1. “I’ll Be Fine”Molly Pettersson Hammar
2. “Pappa”Daniel Gildenlöw
3. “One By One”Elize Ryd & Rickard Söderberg
4. “Hello Hi”Dolly Style
5. “Det rår vi inte för” Behrang Miri feat. Victor Crone
6. “Can’t Hurt Me Now”Jessica Andersson
7. “Sting”Eric Saade

Several of the artists have competed in the show before, but many will remember Eric Saade who won back in 2011 and represented Sweden in Düsseldorf with the song “Popular,” placing third in the Eurovision final. He has not made it a secret that he is not only back to win Melodifestivalen, but intends to go all the way in Vienna and bring Eurovision back to Sweden.

Vote with your heart

As usual there will be two voting rounds during the show. First the seven songs will become five, before another voting round begins. Unlike previous years, you can now only vote five times for each song.

For the first time, the public can also vote via the new Melodifestivalen app. Here you push a heart to “vote with your heart,” up to five times for each song like regular votes. The app votes count as much as the phone and text votes.

Two songs will go directly to the final, while another two will move on to the second chance show. The songs coming in fifth, sixth, and seventh place will be eliminated.

Melodifestivalen 2015 will be hosted by another Swedish Eurovision third-placer, last year’s representative Sanna Nielsen, together with Robin Paulsson. The first semi-final airs live tonight from Göteborg at 20:00 CET.
