Turkey returns to Eurovision with Kenan Williams?
After a two-year absence from the Eurovision Song Contest, there is now news that Turkey might return and be present in Vienna with singer Kenan Williams!
The news has not been officially confirmed by Turkish broadcaster TRT yet, but it has been revealed by sources close to Kenan Williams that he has been chosen to represent Turkey in Vienna.
In 2012, the German-Turkish-American singer was chosen to represent Turkey, but had to later withdraw himself due to illness. He once again applied to represent at Eurovision in 2014, but was unable due to Turkey’s absence in the contest.
Turkey withdrew after the 2012 contest in protest of the voting system (50% jury, 50% televote) and the direct qualification of the Big Five.
In early 2014, General Directorate of TRT, İbrahim Şahin, reported during a press conference, that Turkey wouldn’t be present at Eurovision 2014, but added that it was possible to participate in 2015.
Turkey won the competition in Riga in 2003. The following year, Turkey hosted the contest in Istanbul, using the new generic Eurovision logo, which was revamped for the first time recently. Istanbul also saw the entrance of the semi-final system.
Turkey last participated in Eurovision in 2012 with the singer Can Bonomo.
Good luck to Kenan Williams and Turkey! We missed you!
