Turkey set to return to Eurovision in 2016!
TRT, Turkish national broadcaster, has said that the nation will return to Eurovision in 2016 after a 3-year absence!
The broadcaster explained that its withdrawal from the contest was a result of low ratings and an unfair voting method. The main concern that TRT had with the voting procedure was the automatic qualification of the Big Five (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom) for the grand final.
Senol Goka, TRT’s chief, said that many of the concerns the country had over the “lack of moral standard” had been tackled during talks with the EBU. He continued, “There were problems with not just the voting system, but also with moral standards. We had voiced criticism at the absence of these things, but there are significant improvements on these issues… Our demands will be met and we will return.”
Turkey debuted at Eurovision in 1975 and has won the contest once in 2003. They last competed in Baku 2012 with ‘Love Me Back’ by Can Bonomo.
