TVR Romania receives 159 songs for Selecția Națională
In early January, TVR of Romania confirmed the country’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 and called for songs for the selection show Selecția Națională.
As the deadline has passed, the broadcaster now states that 159 songs were received, with 150 of them being valid for the show.
Several known names are among the hopeful entries as mentioned by TVR:
Paula Seling and Ovi (Romania 2010), Tudor Turcu, VH2, Vizi Imre, Blaxy Girls (Romanian selection 2011), Andrei Leonte (X Factor Romania winner), Dan Helciug, Ştefan Stan (The Voice Romania winner), Bere Gratis, Mirela Vaida, Naomi, Anthony Icuagu, Jazzy Jo, The Zuralia Orchestra, Orlando Ivan (Radio 21), Silvia Dumitrescu, Ozana Barabancea, Cobzality feat. Matilda Pascal Cojocăriţa, Andreea Olariu, Renée Santana (Romanian selection 2013), Alexandra Crăescu, and Cezar Dometi (Romanian selection 2013).
Both Romanian and international songwriters from Italy, Spain Greece, Belgium, and Norway have contributed songs to the show.
The songs are now being shortlisted, on February 19 and 20, as only 12 can make it to the final on March 1, to be broadcast live from the Sică Alexandrescu Theater in Braşov.
Following the allocation draw in Copenhagen, Romania will take part in the second half of the second semi-final.
Paula Seling and Ovi, who represented Romania in 2010, are considered hot favorites to win with the song “Miracle.”
