Familiar names

Some familiar names pop up on the 2016 line-up, such as Erna Hrönn Ólafsdóttir who participated last year, and Greta Salome Stefánsdóttir, who represented Iceland in 2012 with Jónsi and the song “Never Forget.”

Kick-off February 6

Söngvakeppnin 2016 kicks off with two semi-finals on February 6 and 13, before the Icelandic representative for Stockholm will be selected on February 20.

The 12 artists will be divided into two semi-finals, with three moving on to the final from each. The results will be decided 50/50 by a jury and televote, before two artists will ultimately battle for a 100 % televote.

2016 marks the 30th anniversary of the Icelandic selection and Icelandic broadcaster RÚV has teased appearances by national and international Eurovision stars in the shows.

In 2015, Iceland was represented by Maria Olafsdottir, who unfortunately did not qualify for the Grand Final, the first time since 2007 for Iceland.
