Two former Eurovision entrants return for Slovenian selection
Slovenian public broadcaster RTVSLO has announced the 10 finalists who will compete to represent Slovenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. The representative will be selected through the 20th edition of Evrovizijska Melodija, also known as EMA.
The 10 contests are:
- Anja Baš
- Anja Kotar
- D Base
- Nuša Derenda
- SAN Di EGO
- Sebastijan Lukovnjak
- Žan Serčič
The two notable names on the list are Regina and Nuša Derenda, both of whom represented Slovenia at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1996 and 2001, respectively.
Regina placed 21st with her song “Dan najlepših sanj” at Eurovision 1996 in Oslo, while Nuša placed 7th at Eurovision 2001 in Copenhagen with her song “Energy”, marking the highest placement Slovenia has ever had at Eurovision, tied with the 1995 entrant by Darja Švajger which also placed seventh.
The 10 names were narrowed down from 61 this year by an expert jury consisting of: Alenka Godec (singer), Gaber Radojevič (composer and producer), Aleksander Radić (Head of the Slovenian delegation), and Jernej Vene (music editor).
The finals will take place on February 27 and will consist of two rounds. The first round will narrow the contestants from 10 to two, based off of points from the expert jury. Then the final two will perform once more in the second round, where the winner will be decided by tele votes.
