Winner of "HaKokhav HaBa" to represent Israel

Winner of “HaKokhav HaBa” to represent Israel
Emma Kiernan has revealed that Israel will choose its 2015 representative via the talent show HaKokhav HaBa (Next Star). IBA editor, Jonah Wiesenthal, said that this is due to IBA’s financial difficulties.

By using the talent show, IBA will not have to hold a separate national final and therefore will not have to foot the bill for a separate show.

This will not be the first time that the winner of a talent show will represent Israel. In 2007, Boaz Mauda won Kokhav Nolad (Israeli Idol). He went on to represent Israel in Belgrade in 2008 with a song co-written by Eurovision 1998 winner, Dana International, where he made it to the final and finished in 9th place. Shiri Maimon (2005), Haral Skaat (2010), and Mei Feingold (2014) have also taken part in Israeli talent shows.

IBA have not yet released dates for the show, however last year’s HaKokhav HaBa ran from September 17th to December 25th.

Although a hot fan favourite, Israel’s Mei Feingold failed to qualify for the final in Eurovision 2014 with her song “Same Heart.” She finished in 14th place in semi-final 2 with 19 points.
